8 lifestyle habits for gorgeous skin

Below are 8 simple habits you can incorporate into your lifestyle for healthy, glowing, younger looking skin.

1) Eat a healthy high antioxidant diet

A healthy diet can help you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. The association between diet and acne isn't clear, but some research suggests that a diet rich in fish oil or fish oil supplements and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin. Antioxidants are the best resources your body has to fight disease and aging by reducing damage and inflammation. Inflammation is a leading cause of wrinkle formation. Some of the best sources of antioxidants include:

  • Blueberries

  • Pomegranates

  • Acai berries

  • Goji berries

  • Spinach

  • Raspberries

  • Nuts

  • Seeds

  • Purple grapes

  • Dark chocolate (70% or higher of cocoa content)

  • Organic green tea

And don't forget to Avoid sugar. It leads to damaged collagen and elastin, which cause wrinkles.

2) Drink plenty of water

Even with a small amount of dehydration, your body functions in a less optimal way. The instant you're dehydrated, it will take a toll on your skin, causing it to look dull, flaky, saggy and loose. So aim for your two litres a day, try drinking water with every meal, or between other drinks.

3) Exercise

It increases the circulation of oxygen and nutrients and releases toxins through sweat, which leads to clearer, firmer skin. So, start a daily run, join your local gym or join a sporting team and get active for better looking skin. Remember to smile. It’s the best exercise for your face.

4) Treat your skin with care

Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin. To keep it gentle:

  • Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water.

  • Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers.

  • Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.

  • Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.

  • Moisturize dry skin. If your skin is dry, use a moisturizer that fits your skin type. For daily use, consider a moisturizer that contains SPF.

5) Get a quality nights sleep

You skin rejuvenates and repairs itself mostly while you are asleep. Make sure that you not only sleep for eight hours a night, but that it is quality sleep

6) Regularly detox

A build up of toxins in the body due to the air, water and food causes damage to the body as well as aging. Detoxing by way of a juice cleanse is recommended for the body to be able to focus on energy production and eliminating toxins. Having a glass of water with squeezed lemon first thing in the mornings is also very cleansing.

7) Limit your sun exposure and slip, slop, slap

Small amounts of daily sun produce vitamin D and are beneficial, but too much sun will damage your skin. Don’t forget to wear your sunglasses, and use zinc or titanium dioxide sunscreen. Sunscreen is a must for your skin. The rays of the sun are harmful beyond thoughts. Skin cancer, premature aging, skin rashes all of these are caused when your skin gets too much exposure to the sun without any protection.

8) Get an air purifier or own a plant

Indoor pollution levels can be even higher than outdoor levels. A plant in your home or by your desk at work will act as an air filter.
